Google Adwords ? since Google lists websites for free, why pay Google to run ads? There can be good reasons. In addition to appearing on Google search results for key phrases, your ad can show on other websites and blog networks.
Search Engine Marketing ? Google Adwords and More
Search Engine Marketing, or SEM, is when you pay Google, Bing, Yahoo or others to promote your website with paid placement. Those “Sponsored Results” that appear at the top and the side of a Google search are SEM. So are Google ads that run down the sides of many websites.
We’re big believers in optimizing websites with free, natural SEO techniques. But sometimes it makes sense to pay to play. How do you know when? Great question ? and we’ve invited Sara Helmy of Tribu to walk us through an SEM campaign and understand things like:
- What is SEO, what is SEM, why and when use one versus the other
- What you can learn doing SEM, even small budget trials
- Google Adwords and Keyword Research
- Evaluating results, tweaking a campaign – how to know when to let it ride, keep it going, or pull it

She’s a serial entrepreneur, nonprofit creator, technology educator, celebrated change agent, small business advisor, mother of 2, organizer of a TEDx event. Oh, and does she look familiar? Might be because she appeared on several episodes of The Apprentice with Donald Trump.
