Friday, November 7, 2014: Usability Tools and Techniques
As part of World Usability Day, Firecat Studio brings Human Factors expert Gail Tomiak back to conduct an actual usability study. We’ll review usability techniques such as “think aloud” protocol, gathering the questions that usability studies should answer, and tools to conduct usability studies both in lab, onsite and remote via web.
About the Session
Usability and research expert Dr. Gail Tomiak will explain what usability is and is not, and explain the insights and information a usability study can provide. She’ll also describe ways to measure both the difficulties users have with an interface and the business value of improving that experience. As part of this lunch workshop session, we’ll:
- Learn what questions and issues usability techniques can uncover and measure.
- Discuss ways of keeping usability tests neutral.
- Share stories about usability activities; when they’re most helpful, how they can go wrong, and advice for building support for including usability practices in projects and programs.
- We’ll also stage an actual usability test, so participants can get a sense of how the tests work, what they reveal, and how design teams use the information.
