Firecat First Friday: Still Burning

Some moments call for honest conversation with smart people. This is one of them.

The economy is uncertain. The political climate is volatile. And those of us who’ve spent careers navigating disruption — who helped build the digital world we’re all living in — are sitting with some complicated feelings about this moment.

What we know, after decades of riding these waves: disruption brings opportunity. It always has. The question is how to read it clearly, hold the hard parts honestly, and find where the real work is.

This Firecat First Friday was a conversation — for people who’ve been around long enough to have perspective, who aren’t ready to stop, and who want to think together about what wisdom looks like right now.

We opened with a short framework for reading disruption strategically, then opened the floor for honest, generative discussion. No slides. No spin. Just smart people thinking together.

Who attended: Entrepreneurs, independent practitioners, UX and design professionals, strategists, and whose who built a career in or adjacent to the digital world.

Notes from the session:

Several folks had experienced significant health issues that challenged their very existance and gave them perspective. After a life-threatening injury or illness, world affairs pales in importance.

A strong theme in comments was, We can do hard things. We’ve been on the change road for the last 30 years. The trajectory won’t be straight, either — we will encounter help from unexpected factors, people, and events.

Don’t panic — we got this, was the vibe toward the end. Let’s go forth and conquer our fears, run our businesses and keep learning and growing.
